The Compassionate God of Moses.
After the Israelites defeated the Medianites, the Lord commanded that they kill all the males, and they burn all their cities where they had dwelt, with fire …and Moses said to his captains , “Have you saved all the women?’ And this caused him to be wroth with those who trespassed against the Lord in the manner of Baal, as the Israelites had slept with the Medianite women in the manner of Baal Pe or…and Moses killed every male and every female that had lain with a man. And gave all the women that had not slept with a man to his soldiers.
And the Lord spake unto Moses saying take the sum of the prey and divide the prey into two parts and levy a tribute unto the Lord. And the booty being the rest of the prey which the men of war had wrought was 675000 sheep, 72 000 beef, 61000 asses and 32000 persons, of women that had not lain with men.
And after the division into two parts, the persons were 16000 of which the Lord’s tribute was 320 persons…And Moses gave the tribute to Eleazar the priest, (Moses nephew), a heave offering, (like a dishonest gift one would give to a judge) as the Lord commanded Moses..
Even of the children of Israels half, Moses took one person of fifty, both of woman and beast, and gave them unto the Levites, which kept the charge of the tabernacle of the Lord; as the Lord commanded Moses.
